This space in Cave Creek AZ (in the northeast part of greater Phoenix) started as a detached garage. Our remodeling specialist converted it into a 1-bedroom apartment. The renovation features a modest kitchenette plus a full bathroom (with a shower set up for easy access for a handicapped elderly parent).
In the photo on the top right, you can see a white mini-split AC on the wall of the bedroom. That is one of the most popular methods for keeping the temperature cool in a converted garage anywhere (and especially in a hot desert area like greater Phoenix AZ). In fact, this ADU-style living space is big enough that there’s a second mini-split (in the bottom-right photo) along the side of the kitchenette area.
